Have you always been interested in the history of Palestine? Do you want to know more about the current political and social situation of Palestinians living in Israel? This camp provides you the opportunity to discover historical remnants and remains of villages destroyed during and after the 1948 war, to talk to local residents from the north to the south, and meet various communities such as the Druze in the Golan heights and the Bedouins in the Negev, in addition to hiking through beautiful natural scenes and beaches.

The camp includes visits and tours to:

  • Destroyed villages of 1948 in the Galilee

  • Unrecognized Bedouin villages in the Galilee

  • Tours to various Palestinian cities that are either totally or partially ethnically cleansed, such as Tiberius, Akka, and Haifa.

  • A tour to the Naqab (the Negev) and a visit to the Bedouin Villages

  • A tour to the Golan heights and meeting local people.

In addition to:

  • camping for one night on the Tiberius lake

  • Camping for one night on the Mediterranean sea beach

  • Cultural and Artistic programs

  • Political lectures, discussions and meetings with local activists

Detailed program (subject to minor changes)

Friday August 1, Day 1, Freedom and Culture Tent

Arrival at the Culture and Freedom tent in Sakhnin. There are possibilities to be picked up from the Akko train station (for those arriving from the airport) and bus stations in the area (for those arriving from elsewhere). After dinner and introductions, the program will be explained and guests will go to their host families.

Saturday August 2, Day 2, Sakhnin

Breakfast: 8:00 – 9:00 am

Tours in Sakhnin: we will visit the Land Day monument and learn more on Land Day and its commemoration. We will also visit the local heritage museum, and go to the municipality where we will get the chance to meet and talk to municipality staff.

Evening: after dinner we will have a cultural and artistic evening with guests and music.

Sunday August 3, Day 3, Golan Heights

Breakfast: 8:00 – 9:00 am

A trip to the Golan Heights, an area annexed from Syria by Israel in 1967. On the way we will stop at several natural resorts. We will go to the town of Majdel-Shams, and talk to the residents there and learn more about their situation.

Evening: Dinner and spending the night in Majdel-Shams.

Monday August 4, Day 4, Upper-Galilee

Breakfast: 8:00 – 9:00 am

After breakfast we will leave the Golan and visit destroyed villages in the Upper-Galilee: Kofr Bir’am, Iqrit, Al-Bassa, Ras Al-Naqura, and Akko.

Evening: return to Sakhnin for dinner in the tent. A lecture of the situation of Palestinians in Israel.

Tuesday August 5, Day 5, Tiberius

Breakfast: 8:00 – 9:00 am

We will discover the destroyed old city of Tiberius and visit old relics around the lake.

Evening: camping and spending the night on the beach of Tiberius.

Wednesday August 6, Day 6, Tiberius District

Breakfast on the beach: 8:00 – 10:00 am

We will visit destroyed villages in the Tiberias district: Hittin, Loubiya, Safouriya.

Evening: return to Sakhnin for dinner and a political/cultural evening in the tent.

Thursday August 7, Day 7, Haifa and Jisr Al Zarqa

Breakfast: 8:00 – 9:00 am

We will visit Haifa and learn about its historical Palestinian features, and visit destroyed villages in the Haifa district.

Evening: camping and spending the night on the beach of Jisr Al Zarqa, a Palestinian town of fishermen that live under very difficult circumstances. After dinner we will also meet residents of that town.

Friday August 8, Day 8, Naqab I

Breakfast: 7:00 – 8:00 am

We will travel to the Naqab (Negev), and stop at various unrecognized Bedouin villages on the way and talk to the residents about their situation and the problems they are facing trying to keep their land from being confiscated and their towns destroyed.

Evening: dinner and spending the night in one of the Bedouin villages.

Saturday August 9, Day 9, Naqab II

Breakfast: 8:00 – 9:00 am

We will travel back to the North and to Sakhnin. We will stop along the way at different important and historical sites.

Evening: Dinner and celebration in the Freedom and Culture tent.

Sunday August 10, Day 10, evaluation and farewell
